Etchings from Felt(s)
This is the collection of prints from my first group exhibition. The body of work was developed over 5 months and showed at Sycamore Gallery Place, in ATL.
Filled with meaningless meaning, and the nostalgia of a time I was never a part of. These works show a glimpse of thoughts. The main purpose is to welcome the viewer into a sensorial labyrinth allowing you to jump from place to place within the line work. These lines take direction from the plate that has layers of etching to make the cloud-like shapes. The root of this style comes from when my father would play a game with me where he draws a random shape, and I had to make it into something. Eventually, simple shapes bored me, so I began to experiment with photo collage and watercolor having these line-works. With each passing year, the style would come and go for me, though always returning. It would show itself From inking my hand to sharpie drawing on wood grain to see the creatures hidden within. It was within the last two years however that this style has become a more concrete creative well to draw from. The lines come more quickly now the I know how I visually want to display the texture and moments drawn in them. This latest phase has combined my allure to nature’s geometry, well still holding to graffiti as the base. Natural shapes are morph into slime creatures staring at eyes staring at the viewer. These pieces capture my appreciation for what the chaos of chance has to offer.
